Lampard Launches Football Scheme for Special Needs Kids

Chelsea and England star kicks off new community initiative

Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard has kicked off a new community initiative in West London this week to give children with Emotional Behavioural Difficulties at the Gibbs Greener Special School access to new football facilities and the opportunity to develop their self esteem through sport.

In addition to offering personal development programmes to the Gibbs Greener pupils, the facilities will also be used by five local primary schools, increasing the provision of sport within the Borough. After school sessions and holiday coaching sessions will also be held at the site for the local community.

In the shadow of Stamford Bridge, The Gibbs Greener project is a partnership between Chelsea Football Club, The Football Foundation and HSBC Bank. The programme is funded with the help of a grant of £114,269 from the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity.

As part of their ongoing work in the community over 200,000 young people now receive sport and education from Chelsea Football Club every year

Lampard joined over 50 young people to kick off the scheme “It’s important that football and the players put something back into the game and I’m really happy to be able to play a part in helping launch this project and thank the Football Foundation and other partners for all their hard work and support. Football is one of those sports that can help kids develop not only their talent but also help them develop as people. Chelsea are getting really involved in their local community both in London and Surrey and I’m delighted to support this vital work."
