Bishop of London Helps Launch St Paul's Centre

Over 1,000 people toast new community building

The Bishop of London, Dr Richard Chartres joined local residents to mark the opening of the new £5.5 million St Paul's Centre, the extension to St Paul's Church, on Sunday afternoon.

Members of the St Paul's community and chamber choirs entertained the crowd of over 1,000 who toasted the new community centre with glasses of champagne and cupcakes adorned with the church's logo.

The opening of the new centre is the final part of a ten year long renovation project for the landmark church, which also saw it being cleaned and restored to its original glory.

The new centre includes a cafe and a media centre and will host a variety of activities, including an advice and training centre for young people.

St Paul’s Vicar Simon Downham said: " I am delighted to welcome the Bishop and celebrate the successful completion of this project. We look forward to the whole community feeling the benefit of this new facility."
