Jonathan Adams draws inspiration from a vein of Surrealism which becomes the vehicle for his own obsessions – landscapes of the mind the eye has never seen.

Recurrent motifs haunt his work – delirious jungles, decaying cathedrals, machine gardens, mysterious cities, palisades, mirages: these collages, constructed from varying printed matter, evoke a world sometimes melancholy and monochrome, sometimes violently colourful and alarming.

Jonathan Adams was born in 1931 and studied at Chelsea School of Art under Ceri Richards and Prunella Clough. His intriguing and prolific work has brought him numerous exhibitions including those at the Barbican Centre, Royal Academy and Northampton Central Museum and Art Gallery.
