Tourists encouraged to ‘go west’

Attractions of local area are to be highlighted

Some of the key players in the West London tourism industry are joining forces at the Britain & London Visitor Centre next week, March 21-27, to encourage the capital’s tourists to come and see what West London has to offer.

Representatives from Chelsea Football Club, Hammersmith & Fulham council, Hounslow council and Regenasis will join Blue Badge guides in hosting a stand at the Britain & London Visitor Centre, near Piccadilly Circus, to inform tourists about West London’s varied range of attractions, events and eateries, as well as its diversity and its proximity to the centre of town.

Visitors to the stand will be able to collect guides, maps and event listings for the area, and get expert information about accommodation and eating out. They will also have the chance to sample fair trade chocolate, and to win prizes that include a football signed by the entire Chelsea team.

Catherine Knight, Hammersmith & Fulham’s visitor development officer, says: “With the Boat Race taking place on Sunday 27th, and the Easter holidays fast approaching, this is an ideal time to let tourists and visitors know about the vibrancy and variety of West London. Here in Hammersmith & Fulham alone, you can visit everything from Chelsea Village to Fulham Palace, from BBC TV Centre to Shepherds Bush market. You can stop for a drink at one of the riverside pubs or eat at an award-winning restaurant like The Gate, The River Café or Patio. Or you can enjoy cutting-edge entertainment at venues like the Lyric Hammersmith, Bush Theatre, Riverside Studios, Carling Apollo Hammersmith or Shepherds Bush Empire.

“Best of all, you can savour a huge range of different cultures, which we hope to showcase with events like our Middle Eastern food tour on Friday 25 March. For a tourist in central London, all of this is just on your doorstep – places like Hammersmith, Fulham and Shepherds Bush are only ten minutes away by tube. So we hope that our presence at the Britain & London Visitor Centre will help more people to see why it’s best to ‘go west’!”
