Local artists have joined forces for a borough-wide showcase of their work in arts centres, galleries, studios, community centres, colleges, offices, restaurants and pubs this month.
Professional, student and amateur artists are taking part in exhibitions and events at more than 20 venues as part of Hammersmith & Fulham's third annual Visual Arts Season, organised by the council's arts team.

Working artists are opening their studios to visitors; schoolchildren and students are showing recent work in community centres and colleges; while anyone who lives, works or studies in Hammersmith & Fulham has been given the chance to show their work in the Borough Open Exhibition 2003 at Hammersmith Town Hall.

Are you a visual artist? Out of work, or registered unemployed? Committed to developing your practice as your profession? Stuck, or unsure of your next step forward? Would you like support and guidance?
If so, artpoints4ward is a new service provided by Artquest designed with you in mind. From July 2003 there will be an adviser on hand at a number of Job Centres around London to support your professional development as a visual artist/craftsperson and guide you to take your next step. For further details and to book a session with our advisor speak to your current Job Centre advisor. If you are not registered at a job centre in the boroughs listed below you can contact our artpoints4ward advisor at artpoints4ward@aol.com. The advice sessions are available Tuesdays between 10am - 4pm, July to September.

Visual Arts Season programme of events:

Borough Open Exhibition - Hammersmith Town Hall, small hall (19-26 June)
Annual open exhibition, organised by the council's arts team, to give professional and amateur artists who live, work or study in the borough the chance to show their work. Exhibition is open 11am - 6pm, week days only.

Visual Arts Season launch, reception and photocall - Hammersmith Town Hall (6pm on Thursday, 19 June)
Includes the Borough Open Exhibition. A video Inside Out, by Lisa-Raine Davis, which explores the relationship between local people and the town hall, will be shown. Deputy mayor, Cllr Mercy Umeh, will attend.

Schools artwork display - William Morris Society (until 28 June)
A display of this year's John Kay memorial prize for local schools, showing work produced while visiting the William Morris Society. Exhibition runs at the William Morris Society, Kelmscott House, 26 Upper Mall, Hammersmith.

Student exhibitions
Work by students from Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College is on show at the college's campus in Gliddon Road, Barons Court from 10am-5pm - until 20 June. Phone: 020 8741 1688.

Leave to Remain - Acava artists' collective (16-22 June)
Members of the contemporary artists' group Acava hold a group show, based on the experiences of UK asylum seekers, at Central Space, 23-29 Faroe Road, W14. Open: 2 - 6pm, Mon-Fri; 12 - 6pm, Sat-Sun.

Road Works - Acava (until 30 June)

White City Murals - Wood Lane, W12 (throughout June)
Young people from the White City estate have worked with artist Marcelle Price to produce a series of billboard-sized posters, which will be on display on hoardings along Wood Lane. The first in a series of digital arts projects funded by the council, developers Chelsfield and regeneration money with the support of the Acava artists' collective. Phone: 020 8960 5015.
