Lorry Driver Arrested After A4 Crash

Haulage company apologises

The driver of the lorry involved in Tuesday's fatal A4 accident has been arrested and is currently being questioned by Police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit and possession of a controlled substance.

The 44 year old man, who hasn't been named, works for Hanwell based haulage firm Thames Materials, the same company that owned the vehicle driven by Dennis Putz that killed cyclist Catriona Patel in June 2009.

A spokesperson for the company told Evening Standard: “We are very sorry about both cases. We are working very closely with police to try to understand what happened. It has been very hard for us as a company.”

A 51 year old Japanese businessman died and three others were hurt after the DAF Tipper Truck travelling on the westbound carriageway of the A4 crossed the central reservation onto the eastbound carriageway, close to the Sutton Court Road turn off colliding with a black cab.

The cab driver and his passengers were taken to New Charing Cross Hospital.

The driver of the truck suffered shock and was also taken to a separate hospital.

The A4 was closed in both directions for eight hours.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit based at Hampton are investigating and urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 020 8941 9011.
