Taxi Passenger Killed in A4 Crash

Man dies near Sutton Court Road after lorry crosses central reservation

A passenger in a black cab was killed today after a lorry crossed the central reservation on the A4 near Chiswick.

A DAF Tipper Truck travelling on the westbound carriageway of the A4 crossed the central reservation onto the eastbound carriageway, close to the Sutton Court Road turnoff at around 4pm.

It was then in collision with a black cab containing a male driver and three male passengers. The cab driver and his passengers were taken to New Charing Cross Hospital. The driver and two of the men were described as 'walking wounded' but the third man died in hospital.

The deceased has not yet been formally identified.

The driver of the truck suffered shock and was also taken to a separate hospital.

The A4 remains closed in both directions, and police are advising motorists to avoid the area. The crash resulted in widespread traffic chaos across the West London area earlier today.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit based at Hampton are investigating and urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 020 8941 9011.
