Ann Keen Supports ‘Wholesale Reform’ of Expenses System

According to Labour's Brentford and Isleworth constituency office

Ann Keen MP supports a wholesale reform of the expenses according to the chairman of Labour’s Brentford and Isleworth constituency office Steve Curran.

Speaking to a local newspaper, Mr Curran said “Ann fully supports Gordon Brown’s and the Labour Party's commitment to change the current system to ensure it has the full confidence of everyone.”

He continued, “Ann said it is essential we have a system that is transparent and that there are clear governance arrangements in place to ensure this never happens again.”

It’s a different tack than the one taken by her husband and fellow MP Alan Keen who defended the couple’s claims saying, “They [The Telegraph] have twisted the truth to put a different slant on it. We claim for what are the basic necessities."

"The public don't understand the culture of Parliament," he added claiming that it would be “impossible to work and make the 30 minute commute every day."

“Yes of course there's a problem with the system. I have been surprised to say the least at what other people have been claiming but our claims have always been above reproach.”
In contrast Steve Curran claims that Ann Keen “accepts that the current system is not acceptable.”

He added, “We should not forget the outstanding contribution Ann continues to make for the people of Brentford and Isleworth and the borough of Hounslow as a whole, both as a constituency MP dealing with literally thousands of requests for support and as a Health Minister.”
