Imperial College Green Team Make it to Finals

Hammersmith students raise awareness on green projects

Alexander Karvelas, 20, and fellow Imperial College undergraduate geologists Tom Wesby, Edoardo Borgomeo and Carmen Pinto, are taking part in a national competition which aims to find a group of students who can deliver a project which will help the environment.

The winners of the competition, called the Npower Future Leaders Challenge 2010 will be taken on a fortnight trip to the Arctic.

The four students, known collectively as the ‘Imperial College Green Dream’ have reached the final of the competition and are busy working up a set of proposals that could reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the university campus and maybe even across the borough.

The group, which comprises students originally from Colombia, Greece, Holland and Italy are busy creating an environmental policy for Imperial College. Once this is established the team plan to venture out to other parts of Hammersmith & Fulham where there is a large student population that might be keen to help the environment.

The team is investigating the opportunity to generate electricity for the Town Hall using solar panels.
