Green Light for Hammersmith Palais Plan

Redevelopment will create student units and leisure space

Developers London and Regional have been given the go ahead to redevelop the site of the Hammersmith Palais in Shepherd's Bush Road.

The plan, approved at a council planning committee meeting, is to create accommodation for 418 students in a building rising from five to ten storeys with leisure space on the gound and basement levels which could provide facilities such as a dance hall, fitness club, bowling alley or cinema.

Previous plans for 429 student units were refused on the grounds that the scheme would have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of Hammersmith Broadway conservation area.

The new plans have been designed by top architects Make. The company's Justin Nicholls sent out a tweet celebrating the decision, saying: " I'm excited to have gained planning permission on behalf of London & Regional for student housing on the former Hammersmith Palais site."
