Playtime Again On Stamford Brook Common

Residents' petition ensures reinstate of play equipment and repairs to paths

A petition with around 500 signatures was formally presented to Hounslow Council this week demanding the reistatement of the playground on Stamford Brook Common. However, faced with such strong feeling in the community, and with help of local Councillors in particular Cllr John Todd, Head of of Council's Leisure Services Andy Smith, informed the group that a decision had already been made to reinstate the play area.

The Council also managed to find £60,000 to repair the paths which are in an 'appalling state'.

Plans for the Common are currently being outlined and will be put out to tender in January 2011. Each contractor will be given a budget and a list of requirements and they will submit their offer with their proposed plans. Work should start by 31st March.

A group of local residents decided to create a petition after the play equipment on Stamford Brook Common was removed by workmen in August without consultation. When questioned workmen at the site said that it was being removed for 'health and safety' reasons. Fencing that had been installed the previous year was also removed.
