Lack of Consistency in Cycling Fines

Penalties for pavement cycling differ significantly across Hammersmith, Chiswick and Acton

192 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) have been issued over the past 18 months for cycling on the pavements of Hammersmith, Chiswick and Acton.

Surprisingly 176 of these FPNs were issued in Hammersmith, Acton accounted for 13, whilst in Chiswick, where pavement cycling is considered to be an issue, just three FPN have been given to cyclists breaking the law.

The figures, revealed via a Freedom of Information request to Met Police, showed that 58 times more FPNs were issued in W6 than in W4.

Chiswick's three FPNs were all issued to cyclists flouting the rules on the High Road.
