Bomb Material Found on Little Wormwood Scrubs

Police believe find relates to recent attempted attacks

After the attempted bombing of Shepherd's Bush tube station the discovery of what appears to be bomb related material in a local park brings further evidence that suicide bombers have been active in this part of West London.

Shortly after 10am on Saturday a member of the public found a suspicious package in bushes in Little Wormwood Scrubs, NW10.

Explosive officers attended the scene. An initial examination suggests that the object may be linked to devices found at four locations in London on July 21. A controlled explosion of some material was made on Sunday.

The scene in Little Wormwood Scrubs remains cordoned off as a precaution and explosive officers are currently ensuring that the object is safe before it is removed. It will be subject to detailed forensic analysis to confirm the initial supposition about the package.

DAC Peter Clarke, head of the Anti-Terrorist Branch, said: "The object appears to have been left in the bushes, rather than hidden. Naturally this is a matter of concern, and I would urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious items or activity."

He appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Little Wormwood Scrubs or who has any information about the incidents on London on July 7th or 21st to call the Anti-Terrorism Hotline on 0800 789321.

If you see anything, such as a suspect package, which could pose an immediate threat the police urge you to call 999 immediately.
