W11 Opera Presents The Whale Savers


One of this month's highlights at Riverside Studios

W11 Opera for Young People come to Hammermith's Riverside Studios this week to present The Whale Savers, an action packed, witty new opera for young people, which is its 30th commission from composer Martin Ward and librettist Phil Porter.

The Whale Savers tells the story of a stranded whale whose fate divides an entire community, turning generation against generation.

W11 Opera is a non-publicly funded music company which aims to provide a unique opportunity for young people aged nine to 18 from all backgrounds to become involved in opera.

The Whale Savers will be performed at Riverside Studios on December 5 and 6 at at 3.30 and 7pm.

Other theatrical highlights at Riverside Studios in December include Simon Callow in Dr Marigold and Mr Chops, two one-man plays from Charles Dickens, running from December 9 until January 31.

On December 11 and 12 at 8pm, the Romanian Cultural Institute presents Pockets Full of Bread, a satire about human nature, presented in Romanian with English subtitles. Admission to this play is free, but seats are limited. For more information visit Romanian Cultural Institute.

On December 17, the Hairy Bikers come to Riverside Studios for a special one-off preview gig for their Big Night Out tour, promising an evening of cooking, chatting and laughs.

Cinema highlights at Riverside in December include a classic double bill on December 6 and 7 of Meet Me in St Louis and Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life; a double bill on December 9 of Orson Welles' The Third Man and Citizen Kane; a Terry Gilliam double bill on December 11 and 12 of Brazil and his latest film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus; all three Lord of the Rings films shown in one day on December 13 and the epic War and Peace on December 20.
