Staff and pupils at Burlington Danes Academy are celebrating oustanding A Level achievements.

In the Shepherd's Bush school’s third ever set of sixth form results, students have scored a 99% pass rate.

Principal, Dame Sally Coates says: “You feel like with every child you make a difference to their life. They can improve their lives so much by the results that they get. So every child that walks out of here will probably have far higher life chances.

“This is our third set of A Level results since establishing a Sixth Form in 2009 and I am immensely proud to see the performance of our students improve once again. 

“Burlington Danes students have far exceeded expectations and I am sure that our reputation for academic excellence and personalised preparation for university will be enhanced by these outstanding results.”

Sahra Warsame, 18, collected her BTEC in health and social care – which is worth three A Levels.

“I did amazing – I got three As in my modules and I’m so happy, “ she says. “Trust me, the hard work always pays off! So I’m really happy with what I got and, do you know what? - I’m blessed. University, here I come!”

Nawid Daoud who excelled in maths, further maths and physics received three A*s taking him to study civil engineering at Bristol.

“I was expecting it,“ says Nawid, “but, towards the end, the fear starts to creep into your mind. Now it’s all done and behind me, I can focus on getting ready for uni. I’m really looking forward to the course as well.“

At Hammersmith Academy, there was equal excitement as it its first year of A Level graduates achieved an overall pass rate of 97%, with 71% achieving A*-C.

Star pupil Mohamed Elmoussati, 18, of Shepherd's Bush Road, was awarded straight A grades in maths, economics and politics, winning him a place at King’s College London to study maths.

“I’m feeling exhilarated, I did way better than expected. I worked my socks off! I’ve never known anything like it - my social life and friends disappeared.”

He grinned and added: “I’m going to party tonight.”

Another of the school's stars, Amaal Weli, 19, of North End Road, Fulham, received three As in biology, maths and chemistry. She is set to study biomedical science, saying : “My maths teacher, Ms Osman, is the reason I got my grade. It was because of mandatory revision sessions every single day. It was because of the teachers.”

Head teacher, Gary Kynaston says: “I’m just so proud of the students. Launching a new school is very daunting in the first place and we do things very differently here, but the students have come together to be a part of Hammersmith Academy.

“Seeing all the smiles today and the jumping for joy from the staff, as well as the students, shows that the hard work really has paid off.”
