Popstar To Operastar Winner Darius Campbell Headlines Concert In The Square

At St Peter's Church in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research

Darius Campbell (International singer songwriter and recently crowned winner of Popstar To Operastar) will be performing at the Concert in the Square charity concert on Saturday 6th March at St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith at 7.30 pm with drinks reception starting at 6.30pm.

Since 2008, Concert in the Square a charity event raising money and awareness in aid of blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the children’s charity for 2010, Action Medical Research - for Children, for Life, has now become a fixture.

Following the concert’s success in 2008, which helped to raise over £3,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, The Cwmbach Male voice choir accompanied by tenor Marcel Xerri and mezzo soprano Sophie Gopshill, are making a second appearance at St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith on 6th March 2010 at 7.30 pm.

‘Concert in the Square’ had been a dream of organiser Alun Watkins for twelve years since his father Glanddu, died very suddenly from leukaemia, ironically 32 years to the day that his cousin Malcolm died of the same disease as an 18 year old. The concert is his way of honouring their memory and of helping Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to find a cure for this terrible disease. Now fourteen years on, ‘Concert in the Square’ will be holding its second event helping not only Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research but also Action Medical Research - for Children, for Life this years children’s charity.

The programme will be very much Welsh based headed by Cwmbach Male Voice Choir (Alun’s father having sung with them), one of the longest standing and best known choirs in Wales, and accompanied by tenor Marcel Xerri and mezzo soprano Sophie Gopsill. The choir will sing a varied repertoire of both classical and modern music including several special arrangements for the night. We were hoping that International harpist Keziah Thomas and mezzo soprano Charlotte Shorthouse would be able to perform as they did in 2008 but unfortunately they both have prior engagements. Maybe we can secure their talents for 2011. We may however have a special mystery guest this year but at this stage we have to leave their identity a mystery - watch this space! All the performers are kindly donating their services free of charge.
