Bishop's Blessing for Fuller's Seasonal Charity Brew

St. Nick's Winter Ale will help raise funds for Church maintenance

A new beer from Fuller's has received the blessing of the Bishop of London. A portion of the price paid for every glass of a new season ale will be going to a Chiswick Church's development fund.

Fuller's, is this year brewing St. Nick’s Winter Ale which will contribute to the maintenance of their local church, St. Nicholas. The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres visited the Brewery along with Reverend Andrew Downes of St. Nicholas to bless the brew.

St. Nicholas Church is undergoing an extensive building redevelopment in order to be able to further fulfil its mission commitments and make it fit for the twenty first century. Fuller’s designed a seasonal brew to support the campaign. It’s not the first time Fuller’s has supported its local church. Indeed building work on the current church in 1880 was funded by Henry Smith, one of the Brewery’s original partners and a churchwarden of St Nicholas.

The charity beer follows the popular Jack Frost recipe. A beer for the winter months, St Nick’s Winter Ale will provide toasty notes from the darker blend of malts used as well as a relatively sweet finish that lingers on the palate to provide a warming quality to the drink according to Fuller's.

The Brewery was further honoured to receive a rare St Mellitus commemoration medal, given out to recognise long term commitment to supporting the services of the Church.

The Bishop of London, Bishop Richard Chartres said, “I am delighted to bless this brew and hope it will be a big success and contribute greatly to all that St. Nicholas Church is doing. In the modern day, it is paramount for quality and excellence to be in the forefront of everyone’s mind so we are very grateful for a quality-driven company such as Fuller’s support”.

Fuller’s Corporate Affairs Director, Richard Fuller, said, “We are proud that The Bishop took time to bless our brew this morning and we are excited about the potential for this delicious beer to help support the church’s good work in the local community.”

Fr Andrew Downes, Curate of St Nicholas, Chiswick added, “We are immensely proud of our long friendship with Fullers and long may it continue to flourish. It was great to have the Bishop of London down to bless our beer and we hope it will be appreciated by one and all and above all make a meaningful contribution to our Development Appeal”.
