Furnival Gardens Licence Gets Go-ahead

Council say locals will be protected from anti-social behaviour

The annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, environmental festival Greenfest and other events can continue at Furnival Gardens thanks to a premises licence that the Council say also protects local residents from excessive noise and anti-social behaviour.

The decision to award the licence was made at a council meeting on Monday 28 Janaury.

Furnival Gardens has historically played host to a limited number of annual events and the Licensing Act 2003 means that Hammersmith & Fulham's parks require a licence if they are to hold organised events.

The licence guarantees measures that will protect those living close to the park.

The conditions of the licence state:

• There are strict noise limits to minimise the impact on local residents

• All events must be finished by 11pm (10pm on Sundays)

• There are restrictions on the type of event that can take place

• Generators cannot be left on overnight

• Organisers will meet all the cleaning and reinstatement costs.

Councillor Paul Bristow, Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "We applied for this licence to ensure events that take place in the park were covered by the Licensing Act. Events such as the Boat Race viewing are very popular and it is important we safeguard their future in Hammersmith & Fulham.

"Furnival Gardens is a unique and special part of borough and we have listened to local residents. We have ensured there are restrictions to protect them against noise and guarantee clean-up."
